Maman Tattoo

Manman Brigitte's veve. Haitian Vodou practitioners draw veves on the ground using cornmeal. A veve is a "welcome mat" of sorts, that serves as an invitation to the loa whose veve it is. Manman Brigitte is the guardian of cemeteries. Given my interest in restoring Prospect Cemetery and my love of New Orleans, I felt a strong connection with her. Then I found out that as matriarch of the Guede, Manman is also the loa of sex, partying, dancing, and social justice, all of which are things I stongly approve of. I got this done the weekend after Halloween and it finally healed enough to take a decent picture.
